A Self-chartered, Christian-based Scouting Program for Homeschooled Families
2211 Margret Wallace Rd, Matthews, NC 28105
We are Homeschoolers. Homeschoolers in Scouting Unit 447 is a self-chartered homeschool scouting unit for the whole family. All groups are led by dedicated volunteers who are experienced scouters and current or former homeschool parents. Come to one place and find a scouting home for everyone! We have five different programs to meet your needs.
We are Christian. We welcome members of all faiths, but we do emphasize Christian values and beliefs. Our unit number, 447, reflects Phillippians 4:4-7, which reminds us to “Rejoice in the Lord always!”
We are Family-Oriented. We embrace the importance of doing things together as a family. Except for the Venture Crew, which meets on Tuesdays, our Unit meets all together on Mondays at the same time and place. We have programs for ages three and up. We enjoy camps, trips, and other activities together. Our parents serve either as leaders or helping to plan activities, field trips, ceremonies, and service projects.

Cub Scouts are at that magical age where everything is new and possible and, mosy importantly, fun. They build things and play with purpose. They make friends and learn to work together. The life lessons learned here not only transform today's Cub Scouts into tomorrow's Scouts, but also help form a foundation to embrace opportunity and overcome obstacles in life.

Frontier Girls is a scout-like curriculum for girls. The program promotes community service, patriotism, life skills, and leadership. With nine areas of Discovery and offering over 1,200 badges, girls can explore many different skills and areas of interest.

Troop 447 for Girls is a scout-led troop providing opportunities for young women to do all the traditional scouting activities, gain leadership skills and experience, set and attain personal goals, experience the great outdoors, and build friendships to last a lifetime. As a member, you will have opportunities to camp, hike, canoe, kayak, rock climb, and go to summer camp. You will learn archery and shooting sports. You will serve the community and lead the troop. Come visit us and see why we're excited to offer this new opportunity for young women who want to challenge themselves in a unique way to reach their God-given potential!
Boys ages 10 to 18
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Mondays, 7PM to 9PM
Boys have the unique opportunity to learn life long skills in Troop 447. We pride ourselves on being a boy led troop where the Scouts in our troop take an active and engaging role in planning, implementing and leading our scouting program. Through this program at 447, scouts learn skills such as knot tying, first aid, camping, cooking, and service to their community. They will also learn about and engage in multiple avenues of interest through the merit badge program and through rank advancement. Plus, they will get to do all this while making life-long friendships. Most importantly, our Scouts learn what it takes to be a servant leader - that is, a leader who is called not only to lead but to serve those who he leads with confidence, compassion, and a higher sense of purpose.
Girls and Boys ages 14 to 20
2nd and 4th Tuesdays
Venturing is an inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America for males and females aged 14-20 (or 13 and completed the 8th grade). It’s operated through Venturing Crews, units of youth and advisors that meet on set schedules and plan activities and events for youth like you!
